Lydney 13Liverpool St Helens nil LSH will kick themselves for losing this game.
If they had been able to put together any sort of game plan, they would have taken the points.
But they lost possession at crucial moments, gave away and missed penalties.
Lydney were not much better, but they managed one converted try and two penalties.
New lock-forward Greg Meek won his share of line out ball and until Colin King's first half injury, the scrum gained parity with the West Countrymen, but there was no coherent or incisive display from the half backs, and no one with the individual flair to cause nervousness in the Lydney defence.
Flanker Tim Wood and full-back Jim Salisbury impressed but more fire is needed in the forwards, and the return of Brian Wellens and Simon Humphreys is eagerly awaited to spice up the backs.
On Saturday LSH entertain high flying Newbury who lost their first game in 33 at home to Worcester last Saturday.
