Shevington Sharks 4 Haresfinch 12 FINCH produced a tip-top defensive effort to deservedly take the spoils in this hard-fought but good-tempered clash.
With the elements in their favour the visitors dominated the first half, creating a string of scoring chances. Unfortunately, their finishing didn't match their approach work and all they had to show for their efforts at the interval was a 10-0 lead thanks to tries by Dave Swift and Billy Platt, plus one goal by the latter.
After the turn-around it was Shevington's turn to apply the pressure, helped in no small way by a string of penalties in their favour. But despite being camped out on the Finch line for long periods their attacks were repeatedly repelled by a rock-solid defence in which Jackson, Sterricker, Kenyon, Simmons, Kilgannon and Clitheroe were particularly impressive.
The Sharks finally got onto the scoresheet with an unconverted touchdown as a result of another dubious penalty award, but Finch had the final say when Platt slotted over a simple penalty goal to make sure of the points.
