ELTON JOHN'S re-worked 'Candle in the Wind 97' is breaking records all over the country - not least in the Blackburn factory where it is being made.
The hit - which sold out across the country within hours of going on sale last week - has had the Polygram factory working flat out pressing an amazing 4,000 copies an hour to keep up with demand.
David Wilson, sales and marketing manager, told the Citizen: "It's broken all our factory records. We're working 24 hours a day at maximum efficiency.
"We were responsible for pressing the 'Help!' charity CD a couple of years ago and we thought we were doing well then - but we're producing more than double that number of CDs a day for this."
Repeat orders from the country's 4,000 record shops have been flooding in all week, and the Diana tribute album, which is also being pressed at the site, means that the pressure will be on at Philips Road for weeks to come.
Mr Wilson said: "This is traditionally the busiest time of year for us anyway, so what with the demand for the games CDs we produce and other singles on top, this has been quite a week."
