SNOW snobs are taking the piste out of Xanadu!
I have never written to a newspaper in my life, but the situation demands it, when one or two hundred scheming Xanadu objectors see fit to try and destroy the best project Leigh has had this century.
If they are successful in their campaign, Xanadu will not be moved, but I believe cancelled. If it were built anywhere else in Leigh these people would not say a word. I believe that they are not really interested in the environmental issue, but more the value of their property and the view from their back window.
Leigh has been down on its luck for some years, but with the advent of ASDA, a new Sainsbury's and other new shops, a new Volex factory and the rejuvenation of Leigh Rugby ground, the icing on the cake would be Xanadu.
We can look forward to a very prosperous future in the new Millennium. The developers will have taken in to account building new access roads to the M6, just 10 minutes drive away. The proposed bus way link to Manchester will become a reality.
The Green Party - I take this to be a political arm of Greenpeace - is always being shown to be a bit off target, ie. the oil platform fiasco, and other incidents prove this.
I am not against Greenpeace, far from it, I believe they are the conscience of our planet, but they've got it wrong this time. Incidentally, their representative does not even live in Leigh.
Leigh will, once again, become a boom town. We may even get our casualty department back. This is a case of the needs of the many outweighing the needs of a few.
Let's look forward to the ne Millennium with optimism, not pessimism.
Let's make it 'Skis for Leighs'. You can always plant new trees, but an opportunity like Xanadu comes 'Once upon a time'.
Let's look to the future for our children. Please support Xanadu, Leigh, you deserve it.
