A MAN conned his way into the home of a vulnerable old woman and made off with her savings.
The thief called at the 87-year-old victim's house in Link Avenue, Blackbrook, at about 1.30pm on Tuesday, September 9, asking if she knew the person who used to live opposite. When she said she couldn't help him he asked for a pen and paper to write a note and the woman went to look for them.
Meanwhile, the man had entered her front room and she returned to find him sitting in an armchair near to her handbag.
After writing the note the man left the house and the woman later discovered that about £150 in cash had been taken from the purse in her bag.
The conman was white, between 30 and 40 years of age, about 5ft 8ins tall and well built. He had short, fair hair, was clean shaven and wore a dark top and pale blue jeans.
If you were in the area at the time of the theft and saw anything suspicious or think you recognise the description of the man, you can contact DC Karen Cummings at St Helens CID on 0151 777 6876 or alternatively ring Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
