THE sixth phase of an eight-phase rolling £10 million project to improve the Lickers Lane Estate in Whiston has been completed. Fifty-one houses in Skeffington and Domville have just received the refurbishment treatment incorporating new road surfaces, footpaths, traffic-calming measures and new walls, fencing and garden gates with private parking facilities.
The houses themselves have been refurbished including new PVC window frames, replacement of timber walls with brick, insulated render and improvements to the heating system. The rear gardens have new fencing and gates, and communal areas will be re-designed and landscaped.
Work has taken nine months to complete at a cost of about £1 million.
A presentation by contractors Amey Building Limited to mark the hand-over was held at the Village Hotel, Whiston, on Tuesday (September 16) when guest of honour Mayor of Knowsley, Councillor George Howard presented a bouquet to residents to celebrate completion.
Phase seven of the project in Lyneham is due to start next month, followed by the eighth and final phase in Rudgate.
