CHARITY champion Michelle Harrison is going from one extreme to the other in her tireless quest to raise money for local worthy causes.
Earlier this year, beat bobby Michelle walked a gruelling 100km across Israel in sweltering conditions to raise more than £4,000 for the Macmillan Nurse Appeal.
And next year she will be tackling freezing conditions when she undertakes another 100km hike, this time across the Himalayas in Nepal.
Michelle was persuaded to take part in her latest challenge after meeting six-year-old cerebral palsy sufferer Jonathon Welsby while out and about on her Windle beat. She told the Star: "Jonathon is a great little lad and he moved me to sign up for the trek."
She is hoping to raise more than £2,000 in aid of SCOPE (formerly the Spastics Society) which represents people with physical disabilities and added: "I am taking the trek very seriously because I don't want to let my sponsors down."
Michelle is now in training for the event next February when she will take her place alongside 90 other trekkers from all over the UK. The course passes through the Helambu region of Nepal near to Katmandu and they will have to cross areas only accessible on foot with narrow ridges and steep climbs over 11,000ft in sub-zero temperatures.
ANYONE who would like to sponsor Michelle can contact her at Eccleston Police Station on 0151 777 6850.
