Thatto Heath 18 Pilkington Recs 19 A DROP goal by Recs' Barla youth international tourist Nick Camman ensured the City Road side to the spoils in this derby encounter.
Earlier scrum-half Ste Gauchwin has given Recs a good start with a penalty goal.
But Heath raced into the lead when winger Jason Gavin collected the ball 20 metres from his own line and sped away for a great individual try.
Stand-off Peter Derbyshire added the extras.
Pilks hit back with a well-taken try by full-back Jamie Hill.
Heath recovered their advantage when prop Carl Cooper followed skipper Paul Ashurst's kick to touch down.
Then Cooper shrugged off a couple of would-be tacklers and sent Derbyshire away for a try that stretched Heaths's lead to 14-6.
Just before the break another Gauchwin penalty broke Pilks back into contention.
Early in the second half, Heath loose-forward Ashurst jinked over by the posts. But Derbyshire's conversion attempt hit the post.
But Heath refused to lie down.
And a further try by Hill and one from second-rower Andy Traverse, plus a Gauchwin conversion made the scores level.
A tense last five minutes saw Heath scrum-half Barry Ashall go close with a drop goal attempt, but it was left to Camman to snatch the points.
Pilks' man of the match was Ian Connolly, with Mark Leadbetter, Jason Beavan and Graham Cranney also doing well.
Heath's man-of-the-match award, sponsored by Carborundum, went to Ashurst, who was well supported by Cooper and Phil Hayden.
Numbers drawn in Heath's lottery were 5, 8, 10, 14, 15 and 17. There were no winners.
