Nantwich Town 0 Prescot Cables 4 Report by Bert Taylor ELECTRIFYING Cables surged to victory at blustery Nantwich.
The game had hardly started when the hosts were a goal down.
Back to his industrious true form, Peter Cumiskey started the move by winning a free-kick which he struck hard towards the goal. Keeper Simon Pay abandoned his nets in an attempt to clear the danger. He was beaten by in-running Steve Wilson who found the empty goal in typical opportunist fashion.
This dream start followed a 2-1 win at Atherton Collieries in midweek where Wilson was a match winner via a spectacular flying header.
The other scorer was Tony Sullivan who missed the Nantwich game. He was on loan to GM Vauxhall Conference club Stalybridge Celtic. I understand he has gone there for a month.
However, the latest win, probably by the biggest margin Prescot have ever enjoyed at Jackson Avenue, underlined the wealth of talent manager Arthur McCumiskey has at his disposal.
Prescot were excellent in every department. Consequently, Nantwich, far from being a poorer side, were made to look powerless, especially in the second half.
Even the half-time score did not do full justice to the visitors' superiority. Rampant Cumiskey was pulled back as he was going for goal by controversial flag-waving decisions. First, for offside after he had got the better of an opponent, and, secondly, when a free-kick was given against him.
By contrast, all the second half decisions were clean cut. The second period started very much like the first with Cables doubling the lead early on. Scorer was Darren Hilditch who has obviously found his best position on the left flank.
I thought the best goal was cleverly executed on the 79th minute as right-back Aaron Cramsie flighted an accurate long, crossfield ball to Hilditch who again proved himself a prince of opportunism.
That was just four minutes following a chance made by Cumiskey which was expertly taken by Wilson.
The visiting defence, who have now kept a clean sheet in five games, was again impressive, particularly experienced John Cassidy who time and again foiled attacks. On one occasion he denied Nantwich a consolation goal by simply taking the ball from ace marksman John Scarletts foot as he was about to shoot.
With the game won, McCumiskey called upon his three substitutes, namely Jackson for Cassidy, Noon for Cumiskey and Gould for Rudkin.
Prescot team: Greg Price, Aaron Cramsie, Paul Rudkin, John Cassidy, Simon Hughes, Kevin Lynch, Paul Joyce, Lee Bamber, Peter Cumiskey, Steve Wilson, Darren Hilditch.
A great game is anticipated at Hoghton Road on Saturday as third positioned Prescot entertain present leaders Newcastle Town (3pm).
Last week's lottery numbers were 2,5,8,10,15,19.
There were no winners.
