IT was a case of 'snow-show' by local councillors and planning chiefs at a public meeting at Leigh Cricket Club on Monday night by residents opposed to the planned Xanadu ice complex.
Now fed-up action committee members are to write to the Prime Minister asking him to take action. Around 200 opponents to the scheme to build the ambitious leisure complex at Pennington turned up at the meeting and were angry to discover that not a single councillor turned up.
Spokesman Nick Waddecar of the Xanadu Action Committee said: "We invited a number of councillor and we were expecting at least one or two to turn up but none did. It seems they haven't the guts to face us and explain a number of inconsistencies in the plans.
"The next step is for us to write to Prime Minister Tony Blair asking him to intervene and to make sure we are not ignored by Wigan Council or local councillors.
"We are meeting again next week and we expect some answers or this could be a long drawn out battle by the action committee."
