A ONCE-thriving organisation with maritime connections has sent out an urgent SOS signal to former matelots to help keep their ship afloat.
For the Royal Naval Association Club, Volunteer Street - a friendly port-of-call to countless sea-dogs over the years - is facing declining membership and consequent financial problems.
Said RNA vice-president and PRO Sam Hill: "We are presently launching a recruitment drive, and we are particularly targeting the hundreds of ex-Royal and Merchant Navy personnel in St Helens.
They will be made most welcome at our next branch meeting on Wednesday, September 24, at 8pm, when there will be an opportunity to splice the mainbrace with a complimentary tot, and meet new shipmates."
