NEARLY 200 people will walk around the Cliviger Gorge on Saturday (September 20) in an attempt to raise £2,000 for a church's restoration fund.
And though the 25-mile route could prove difficult for some, it is but a stroll for Eric Wrathall, who has organised the event with his wife, Kathryn, in aid of St John's, Holme.
Eric, of Burnley Road, Cliviger, is a member of the Long Distance Walkers Association and did 40 miles on his 40th birthday to raise £400 for charity.
Saturday's walk has the blessing of landowner Sir Simon Towneley, who says: "I doubt whether you could spend a more rewarding and pleasurable day than to walk in the Cliviger Gorge and at the same time raise funds for St John's Church."
Eric said: "We are hoping for a fine day and, for their safety, everyone taking part will be checked for adequate clothing and footwear."
To enter, register at Church House, next to St John's, at 7.15am. If 25 miles is too far, you can do 12, in which case you should register at 8.45am.
"Through the generosity of many people we are able to put on good food for the participants at the finish of the walk as well as refreshments along the route," said Eric.
Fees are £3.50 for 12 miles, £5.50 for 25 miles or £12 for a family ticket (two adults, two children).
