CHRIS Waddle says he is short of the cash he needs to buy his way out of Burnley's early-season crisis.
But the manager is determined not to buckle under the pressure, which grew after his side were thumped 4-0 by Stoke in the Coca-Cola Cup on Tuesday.
He said: "There is no cash, but I definitely think we need two or three new faces. There needs to be pressure for places. Without that, players can become complacent."
The Clarets' poor form means the derby clash with Preston at Turf Moor on Saturday is likely to be a struggle.
But Waddle is not panicking, and even managed to take something positive from the Stoke game - he says he saw a lot of good things in the first half.
But the fact is that the first division side have, along with York, badly dented the confidence of Burnley's defence - the one area where they were looking strong. And there is now a very real worry that within weeks the Clarets could have fallen into a hole too big to climb out of.
Waddle's clearance exercise began with the transfer-listing of six players, and one of them, Vince Overson, has moved on a month's loan to Shrewsbury Town - he is grateful of the chance to play first-team football and play himself back into form.
Gerry Harrison is a possible target for another third-division side, Rochdale, where he would surely command a constant place.
