THE driver of a packed passenger train travelling at 50 miles per hour suffered an eye injury after a brick was hurled through his window.
The Manchester Victoria to Blackburn service was travelling through Lower Darwen when the incident occurred at about 4pm yesterday.
The window was shattered and the driver covered with glass. He managed to drive the train into Blackburn station.
A British Transport Police spokesman said the object hit a window at the side of the driver's seat.
He added: "People do not always realise the implications of what they do.
"If the stone was thrown at 50mph and hit a train travelling at 50mph, the resultant force is one of 100mph.
"The driver was badly shaken and went for treatment in Manchester."
Officers searched a two mile section of the track.
