REGARDING the artistic treasures in Blackburn town centre, surely, one would have thought that these barricades would have been finished off properly in the studio workshop and not have to be tickled up on site (LET, September 20).
Secondly, why have they been installed half way up Northgate and not at the Gladstone statue?
One can only assume that the planners have bowed to the pressure of Marks & Spencer to make it easier for their juggernauts to access the loading bay.
Thirdly, someone will have to be on call to open and close the barrier, trusting of course that they can find the keys.
Fourthly, how are the emergency services to get immediate access?
Finally, in an area of conservation, why on earth have we got a stainless steel monstrosity, when if we have a barrier at all, a traditional, tasteful wrought iron one in black and gilt would have been better?
Planners have a lot to answer for. Remember deck-access flats?
