SECOND Division rivals Luton Town want Gerry Harrison, writes TONY DEWHURST.
I can reveal tonight that Luton boss Lennie Lawrence has made a firm enquiry for the transfer-listed utility man.
But any interest has cooled until Harrison recovers from a hamstring injury sustained in the bruising 1-1 Lancashire derby draw with Preston North End.
"Lennie Lawrence contacted us about taking Gerry but they've not offered a fee or anyhting like that," confirmed assistant manager Glen Roeder.
"Obviously nothing can happen until the player is fit but we don't know whether Luton will come back to us or not. At present it is just an inquiry."
Lawrence - who saw Luton thrashed 5-2 at home to Wrexham a week ago - is suffering a major injury-crisis at Kenilworth Road with up to nine squad members injured.
And this week he sealed the signing of defender Alan White for £40,000 from his old club Middlesbrough as he bids to plug the gaps. Lawrence said: "I'm in the market for at least one defender and a midfielder.
"I've spoken to a couple of clubs about players, including Burnley.
"We've got a frighteneing injury situation, but there is little I can do about it.
"In all my years in management I can't remember anything like it."
Harrison was one of six names made available for transfer earlier this month as Burnley attempt to raise cash for team strengthening and cut their wage bill.
Already Vince Overson has joined Shrewsbury on loan, while Nigel Gleghorn is likely to link up with Northampton next week, also on loan.
Meanwhile, defender Steve Blatherwick is likely to be out of action for a month with cartilage trouble.
"It is a blow for us because Steve has played a very influential role so far this season," added Waddle.
