STUDENT Steven Carr's visit to Rossendale Motor Bike Show a year ago ended in him becoming a Wall of Death rider!
And when 17-year-old Steven returned to his home town thousands saw him in his new role as a motorbike stuntman.
His first brush with the wall of death came just a year ago when he went along to the show and was asked to help out behind the scenes because they were short-handed. Steven got on well with Wall boss Graham Cripsey, who invited him to join the show's tour of Holland for a week.
The former Fearns High School pupil accepted like a shot.
This led to him being asked to join the Skegness-based team for the 1997 season - an offer which resulted in the teenager quitting his sixth-form studies.
He has been on tour and learning his trade since March. visiting mum and dad, Lynn and Barry Carr, of Burnley Road, Loveclough, when he works in the North West.
The Rossendale show gave Barry and Lynn their first chance to see their youngster at work - an exciting experience, they say.
"We were both a bit nervous watching him at first, particularly his mum," said Barry, "But we got used to it and more settled after we had watched him a few times."
Bike fan Steven, a motocross rider since he was 14, simply loves his new life and has no regrets, says Barry.
