BIG brewers Scottish and Newcastle went in for the kill with a near £200 million bid for Blackburn-based Matthew Brown.
The border brewers, who were beaten off at the 11th hour in a takeover battle two years before, hit back with a breakfast time bid which shareholders would find hard to resist.
Mattthew Brown's board issued a statement urging shareholders to sit tight.
