I AM amazed at Blackburn Council's one-sided attitude to pavement clutter.
Traders' small 'A' boards must be removed, yet the council itself has recently installed a large 'gate' in Northgate and a statue in the middle of the Boulevard's pavement area.
The reason usually cited is that 'A' boards are a danger to the visually impaired. Both the quoted examples from the Council are of solid construction, capable of causing serious and lasting damage, whereas the majority of 'A' boards would fall over if walked into.
Blackburn Council is currently mounting a clean-up of pavement clutter - their definition - and yet are actually installing far more monstrous works of art.
Their campaign includes sending out council representatives to make contact with offending local traders and I am sure a mountain of paperwork, the time and money for which, I am sure, would be better spent actively promoting Blackburn centre in the run-up to Christmas.
