ANDY Cooke was due to visit a specialist today in a bid to cure a troublesome back problem.
The striker missed the weekend's action at Brentford with a back injury and now Cooke hopes the trouble can be sorted out once and for all.
Waddle said: "It is a bit of a worrying situation for us, especially because we are so short of bodies.
"Every time he has attempted to train recently Andy has suffered a reaction with his back.
"That's why we need to get to the root of the problem quickly because Cookey is a very important member of our squad."
Meanwhile, Nigel Gleghorn's loan move to Second Division rivals Northampton Town has hit another snag.
Gleghorn was due to link up with Northampton this week after shaking off a hamstring injury.
But the transfer-listed midfielder has suffered another injury blow after twisting his knee in training and will not be fit to make the move to the Sixfields Stadium for at least another week.
"It is the same knee I had the problems with last season and the injury has just arrived at the wrong time for me," said Gleghorn. "I was hoping to get away and link up with Northampton this week but I'll have to hang on now and hope everything is still on when I'm fully fit.
"It is very frustrating because I need first team football again."
Meanwhile, Glen Little has laughed off speculation linking the winger to a move to former club Glentoran.
He said: "I've heard absolutely nothing about that, apart from what I read in a newspaper last week.
"There is nothing in the story. I've got a lot of fond memories of playing out there but I don't think it would benefit me to move back to Glentoran at this stage of my career.
"I think moving back to Northern Ireland would be a backward step for me.
"I've still another two years on my contract at Burnley and I want to see that out."
Meanwhile, Marco Gentile, Paul Weller and Damian Matthew are all expected to feature in tonight's reserve team against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane (7pm).
Weller and Matthew were both relegated to the substitute's bench for Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Brentford.
Matthew said: "It was a disappointment for me but I will keep plugging away and aim to win back my place through hard work.
"I really did think I played okay against Preston the previous week so to get left out at Brentford was a hard one to swallow."
