AN unlucky dog and her seven puppies became unusual residents for a North Shore landlady when one of her flats became empty and the family of homeless dogs moved in.
Jo Levine, who owns flats on Carshalton Avenue, went on holiday and came back to find her empty flat taken over by a man and his dog - Lucky.
She said: "I got the impression that the man didn't have anywhere else to go and had probably been sleeping rough.
"I told him he could stay for a few days, but then he'd have to move out so I could get someone to fill the flat."
After a number of days, Jo could still hear noises in the flat and decided she would have to open the door and tell him to move on.
"I could hear a dog in the room, so I was nervous about opening the door, but to my surprise I was greeted by seven hungry puppies and their poor mother - with no owner in sight."
Jo said: "For whatever reason the owner had abandoned the dogs, leaving the desperate mother to cope.
"All Lucky's veterinary records were left behind and I've now got to know her as a loving, house-trained dog.
"She's only 18 months old and has a very good nature.
"As a dog-lover myself, I would love to keep her but can't.
"I am looking for someone who can give her a home. She's very thin and probably hasn't had a comfortable life."
The dogs have been squatting in Jo's flat for more than two weeks and she is anxious to re-settle them so that a new tenant can move in.
If you think you can give any of the dogs a home, contact Jo Levine on 299969.
