WE have seen a 'Song for Europe'. Now local lyricists and musicians are being challenged to write a 'Song for Leigh'.
Town Centre Manager John Ayres is challenging would-be Lennon and McCartney's to pen words and music for a song depicting the best of the town, which could then be recorded by a local group.
It is the chance of a lifetime for local talent to break through into the music industry, with the recording of the completed work being broadcast on local radio and a snippet of it being used for advertising the benefits of living in Leigh.
John said: "I would like to offer this chance to anyone who really cares about Leigh to put their thoughts into words and music. This could be the stepping stone to greater fame.
"Those writing and performing the song are being asked to do it free of charge because they really care about Leigh and realise also that this is a good way to have their work produced.
"I will be more than happy to make sure that demo-tapes of the winning song will be provided to the winners so they can use them to further their ambitions in the music industry."
Anyone who can compose the words and music of 'A Song for Leigh' are asked to send them together with their name and address to John Ayres, Town Centre Manager, The Investment Centre, 116 Bradshawgate, Leigh W N7 4NP, and include a daytime telephone number if possible.
The closing date for entries is Friday, October 17.
