A FAMILY who say they've spent the past two years plagued by noisy student neighbours have been backed a councillor.

Councillor Marie Milne has joined the Preston couple's call for landlords to keep a closer eye on tenants - and asked students themselves to have more consideration.

Her calls come at a time when the University of Central Lancashire is appealing to the community to help them house new students in the town.

Coun Milne said: "Over the past two years this family has been devastated by noise and they're dreading this week when they don't know who's going to move in next door.

"The landlord has got to keep an eye on the situation."

The angry wife - who asked to remain unnamed - has lived with her husband and two daughters in the Plungington area for ten years.

She said: "It's not just music. Most of the time doors bang until 4am. One of my daughters had to give up college, my husband's given up his job and I'm heading towards a nervous breakdown.

"We're housing association tenants. If we cause anyone hassle our landlord gets on to us. It should be the same for the students. If it's not better this year we'll be moving. We can't take it any more."

Bob Evans the University of Central Lancashire's Accommodation Co-ordinator said: "We take an interest in our relationship with the community.

"If the problems continue I'd ask them to contact me. Students are be encouraged to be responsible neighbours." A spokeswoman for the family's landlords North British Housing Association said: "They should get in touch with Preston council which has powers under the Control of Pollution Act."
