BURNLEY 1 NORTH END 1 TEN minutes before kick off the atmosphere inside Turf Moor was unbelievable.

By kick off time is was unbearable!

Both sides arrived on the back of crushing defeats in the Coca Cola Cup - Preston looking for their first win away from home in the league and Burnley for their first goal at home this season.

North End's Gregan and Ashcroft dominated midfield, providing a good service to Nogan and Reeves up front.

Nogan received a torrid time from the Burnley fans on his first return to Turf Moor since his transfer to Preston, but he didn't let it get to him.

And he was a delighted man when he latched onto a brilliant through ball from Grogan to take the ball and beat Marlon Beresford with a low shot to give Preston a deserved lead on 19 minutes.

Then, two minutes before half-time, Jackson brought down Cooke in the box, the referee pointed to the spot and up stepped David Eyres confidently to take the kick. Eyres crashed the ball goalwards and saw his shot hit the top of the cross bar and bounce into the Preston crowd instead of into the North End net.

Burnley still hadn't a goal at home this season. Preston went off 1-0 up at half-time and then it all went wrong.

Burnley came at Preston in the second half and it was back to the wall as Tepi Moylinen's goal was put under siege.

Wave after wave of attacks poured in on the Preston goal and Barnes and Cooke went close.

Ford showed some control in the box and hit a shot which Moylinen got a glove to and turned the ball against the post.

It came back to Barnes and in a flash the ball was in the net and the Burnley fans roared their approval.

Then the lineman's flag held aloft signalled offside and the Claret army went mad.

Ten minutes left, could Preston take much more of this.

The answer was no.

Barnes played the ball into the Preston box and in came Andy Cooke with a header that flashed past Moylinen, this time it counted and Burnley had a deserved equaliser.

Preston could have won it on the evidence of their first half performance, but just where did they go to in that second half?

Two points out of a possible twelve away from home is a poor return and Preston must now set about improving matters when they visit Wycombe on Saturday.
