PACKMAN John Maxwell ripped apart league leaders Beverley with a hat-trick of tries.

And co-destroyer Mike Warburton helped himself to a brace as Leigh MR won 36-16 in a thrilling encounter.

The game was locked at 4-4 when Neil McColloch was bundled down and Yorkshire second rower was marched off for an early bath.

It was still close, however, Maxwell darting in for his first try, Beverley edging ahead at 10-8.

Then, with Peter Sharp, Paul Shepherd and McColloch finding space, Miners cut loose. Maxwell and Warburton dashed in, centre Carl Jones sent Matt Irwin in at the corner.

Warby then side-stepped his way in under the sticks, Maxwell grabbed No 3 and Miners cruised.

At the close, with the home side tiring, Beverley responded to take a little shine off the win. But not much!
