REMEMBER the name Joe Nolan - because in years to come he could be one of the country's top snooker players.
Talented Joe, from Nelson, is only 12 but already he is on the road to becoming a professional. Colne Snooker Club are so impressed with his ability and temperament that they're investing £10,000 in his future.
The backing will pay for equipment such as cues and formal clothes - both of which Joe will rapidly grow out of - and entrance fees for competitions.
Joe was picked out from all the promising youngsters at Colne and its sister club, Top Break in Burnley.
"We had several competitions to decided on a short-list and eventually we picked Joe," said club spokesman Herbie Hartley.
"His attitude to the game is so good, and his potting is good. He's already knocking in 60 breaks at the age of 12 - I can't even do that yet and I'm 56."
He added: "We're backing him over five years. We'll manage him, buy all his equipment, give him lessons, and pay for competitions and travel.
"If after five years he's good enough to turn professional, then we will pay his professional fees.
"All the top snooker players trained seriously from an early age. Stephen Hendry used to travel miles when he was 12 to compete."
