AN elderly woman had her purse snatched by two robbers as she walked across a church car park in broad daylight.

The incident took place at about 2pm on Wednesday, September 17 when the 60-year-old victim was making her way towards Asda via St Thomas' Church in Westfield Street.

As she crossed onto a footpath near Kirkland Street, she became aware of two men behind her. One of the men then shouted to her and as she turned round they ran up and snatched her black leather shoulder bag.

After taking out the purse, containing about £50 in cash, a bus pass and credit cards, they discarded the bag and ran off leaving the woman very shaken.

The man who grabbed the purse was white, aged about 30 and 5ft 6ins tall. He had short black hair, a chubby face and spoke with a St Helens accent, and wore a black jacket and trousers, and black-and-white trainers. The other man was younger, about 27 years of age, 5ft 9ins and slimly built. He had fair, shoulder-length hair and wore a beige-coloured, three-quarter length jacket.
