MEMBERS of the Old Hall Brass Band are tuning up for the National Brass Band of Great Britain Final which will be held at the Birmingham Symphony Hall this Saturday, September 27.

The Billinge band was formed in 1989 and since then they have been prize winners on 21 occasions.

Now the band are hoping that they can blow away the competition in this latest competition, one of the most important events in the brass band calendar.

A spokesman said: "We would like to thank St Helens Borough Council for allowing the band to use the town hall on two occasions in preparation for the final at Birmingham. And we would also like to thank St Helens Concert Youth Band who, very sportingly, allowed the band to borrow two vital pieces of equipment needed to compete in the finals."
