ENVIRONMENTAL Health Officers at St Helens Council are stepping up their campaign to warn people of the dangers of inefficient microwave ovens.

The council has launched free microwave tests for domestic and commercial users of microwaves.

The average microwave has an estimated life of 2,000 hours after which it becomes less and less efficient and problems may arise. Food may not reach the correct temperature to kill off food poisoning organisms and illness may result. Frozen food may not be thoroughly cooked with the risk of bacterial growth. Older machines may also have faulty seals allowing some leakage of microwaves.

For your free service test or free leaflet with useful tips for microwave users contact St Helens 456353/456338, or call in to Environmental Health in Wesley House, Corporation Street.
