IN the Citizen September 18 edition P. Lynch's hysterical diatribe clearly demonstrates how the success of the countryside rally, and the growing opposition to Mike Foster's bill, has thrown the anti-hunting lobby into panic.
The obvious reason why the League Against Cruel Sports withdrew its support from the anti- hunting rally was to avoid humiliation of a poor turn out, and for P. Lynch to suggest that many of those who attended the countryside rally were coerced by their employers is a pathetic attempt to belittle that event.
In a democratic and pluralistic society, it is not good enough to demand the criminalisation of hunting, shooting and eventually fishing, simply because because the antis do not agree with it. Imagine the outcry if minority groups such as homosexuals say, or Moslems were being targeted!
Although many people may disapprove of field sports, they are often tolerate enough to respect the rights of others, a virtue that seems to be sadly lacking in P. Lynch.
