THERE was joy and despair in equal measures for the cricketers of Greenmount and Elton in their respective limited overs cup finals last weekend.
At Little Lever on Sunday Greenmount had man-of-the-match Keith Webb to thank as they defeated Egerton to lift the Bolton League's Jubilee Trophy for only the second time.
Webb hit an unbeaten 49 out of the village side's 95 for 3 after their Bolton opponents struggled to 94 for 6 from their 20 overs, Mark Stewart's two catches and 3 for 40 proving decisive.
Earlier in the day they had seen off Heaton in the semi-final thanks to a couple of role reversing performances.
Skipper Gary Chadwick who is more noted for making headlines with the bat, confirmed his self-styled 'best net bowler in the club' reputation with 3 for 21 as Heaton made 122 for 8.
Then it was the turn of Stewart to turn the tables as the inter-league bowler hit an fine unbeaten 47 to see his side into the final.
On Saturday Elton went down to a 40 run defeat when they travelled to Edgworth in the final of the Bolton Association's Vimto Cup.
The home side put on a total of 147 for 8 from their 40 overs and, although openers Graham Bushell (18) and Howard Pawson (28) gave the Leigh Lane lads a good start they lost their way and slid to a disappointing 107 all out.
