Morecambe 4 Welling Utd 2 MORECAMBE bounced back from last week's miserable home defeat against Hednesford with a thrilling victory over in form Welling United on Saturday. Manager Jim Harvey put Mark Ceraolo into the starting line up for the first time this season and, with the Shrimps playing fantastic fluid football, he did the business scoring Morecambe's first two goals. When they arrived at Christie Park Welling had been racing up the league table after four straight wins but the 'Wings' were clipped by a rampant Morecambe side brimming with determination to maintain their title ambitions.
Ceraolo had the first good chance of the game but after chipping the advancing keeper the angle proved too narrow and his shot bounced back off the post. A similar situation after 15 minutes saw him make extra sure this time around and he ran the ball into the back of the net.
A shock Welling equaliser from Ritchie Hanlon after Steve McIlhargey dropped a cross was only a minor hiccup as the Shrimps started a blinding 15 minute spell of total football which bagged them three goals and secured the victory.
Ceraolo fired in his second, a cracking Andy Grimshaw shot was bang on target streaking into the bottom corner of the net. Then a swift passing movement out of midfield split the defence and set up Mark Shirley for Morecambe's fourth.
Although Welling grabbed a late goal that raised hopes of a comeback, Morecambe ran out the match easy winners and are now just one point behind league leaders Halifax.
Morecambe: McIlhargey, Knowles, Hughes (Norman) Miller, McKearney, Grimshaw, Healy, Monk (Burns) Ceraolo (Bignall) Mayers, Shirley.
