Lancaster 4 Chorley 1 TWO goals in under a minute from Gary Worthington ensured that Lancaster maintained a 100 per cent home record on Tuesday night. And this excellent all-round performance has put the Blues in buoyant mood for Saturday's FA Cup second round clash away at Hyde United. Although City ran out easy winners in this Lancashire derby, keeper Paul Booth deserves a mention for several stunning saves that kept them one step ahead.
City started off well and struck in the 22nd minute with a superb goal. Jimmy Graham's free kick was cleared straight to Charlie Boyd who struck the ball on the volley from 25 yards out. The ball hit the underside of the crossbar and flew into the net.
However the first half also saw errors in City's defence, one of which led to a goalmouth scramble and an easy tap in for Mick Jones.
At half time, Ian Dring went off for Peter Craven who was immediately in the thick of the action. His cross-field ball in the 49th minute left Gary Worthington in space to go one-on-one with the keeper to fire CIty into the lead.
Then straight from the kick-off, Dave Lancaster put a pass through to Worthington who was once again one-on-one with the keeper and he fired in another to put City 3-1 up.
And in the dying minutes of the match, City put the game well beyond Chorley's grasp. A defensive error was picked up by Lancaster who tried a shot that the keeper managed to parry. However, Mark Dobie's follow up was unstoppable.
After the match, Gordon Rayner said: "The lads have worked hard and deserved to win once again. Gary's just come back from a virus and scored two goals for us and so it's looking good."
Team: Booth, Wilson, Graham, Phillips, Jones, Flannery, Boyd, Worthington, Lancaster, Dobie, Dring (Craven 45).
