BLACKPOOL'S Grand Theatre is enjoying a new look and new addition to its accomplished theatre space with a multi-purpose outdoor canopy area.
To welcome the theatre's thrilling winter programme the canopy was officially opened by two stars from the forthcoming big bill, South Pacific, starring Jessica Martin and Mark Wynter.
The canopy, surrounding the stage door entrance of the theatre, will enhance the walk to the newly refurbished Studio Theatre.
Beautifully coloured cast iron and glass cover the area which also serves as an extension to Matcham's Bar where people can enjoy a European-style cafe bar, with tables, chairs and parasols.
A lottery donation of £700,000 aided the creation of the canopy and the chairman of the Grand, Samuel Lee, said at the opening: "We are looking forward to the future with enthusiasm."
The theatre is once again host to an all-star new season of shows from companies around the world.
General manager Stephanie Sirr said: "I am really pleased with the way it has come together.
"A lot of the plays I wanted are on the programme.
"I like to attract international companies and I found a lot were very enthusiastic about coming here.
"The new season has a mixture of old favourites and new.
"Everyone will find something to suit them this season and I am very proud of what the Grand can offer."
