A PLUCKY garage cashier refused to hand over money when two masked men threatened her with hand guns.

She flatly refused twice before the men, wearing funny face party masks, fled from The Finger Post, the Elf filling station in Burnley Road, Edenfield.

They left empty-handed in a white Ford Escort with a red stripe on the sides.

Two other people stayed in the car, one of them described as a pretty woman with long, blonde straight hair.

The attempted robbery happened at 5.05pm on Saturday and anyone with information is asked to contact detectives at Rawtenstall police station, 01706-215242.

Det Sgt Stuart Barlow said the two men were went into the garage shop were both wearing brightly coloured funny face masks.

Both were holding what appeared to be hand guns one dark and eight inches long, the other silver and slightly shorter.

The first man into the shop was 5ft 3ins, 20-25 years, medium to slim build, with dark hair thick on top. He was wearing a dark coloured short bomber jacket zipped up at the front, dark jeans or trousers and black woollen gloves.

He spoke with a deep local accent.

The other man was white, 5ft 5ins, slim, aged about 20, with dark brown hair. He was also wearing gloves and also spoke with a local accent.

The cashier was not at the garage yesterday and does not want to be named.

She was unhurt but badly shaken by the terrifying ordeal.

Det Sgt Barlow said: "She dealt with the situation in an unusual way by point blank refusing to give them money.

"It is not necessarily what we would recommend but it resulted in them leaving without getting anything.''
