CHIP shop owner Sue Richards had a close shave to raise money for a community project on the West End estates at Burnley.

Then shaven-headed Sue went back to work in the Harold Avenue Chippy with all profits from four hours of fish frying going to the same Cabin Appeal.

Residents on the estates are converting an old workmen's cabin into a community facility mainly for youngsters in the area.

Sue, pictured with her pal from the chippy Tracey Spedding, said: "I know the three hard-working volunteers Sheila and Eddie Crossley and Phil Bilham who are putting a tremendous amount of work and effort into the scheme.

"I thought I could help them out by raising money and this seemed to be the best way.''

Sue lost her locks at The Alma public house in Accrington Road on Saturday. Yesterday she opened her chippy for four hours with all profits going to the charity.

She said: "I would like to say a special thank you to all my suppliers for their help. I don't normally open on a Sunday but I was very busy.''
