A SCATHING letter has been sent to Wrexham Football Club by a Burnley supporter who says fans are "owed an apology".

As reported in Monday's Lancashire Evening Telegraph, angry Clarets fans claimed they were crammed into an over-crowded part of the Wrexham's Racecourse Ground, were charged £12 for a seat and then forced to stand.

In his letter to David Rhodes, Wrexham's managing director, chairman of the Clarets Independent Supporters' Association David Wynne said: "You owe the fans of Burnley an apology for the way you treated them on Saturday.

"On Monday morning my phone never stopped ringing.

"I was being asked about my views on what could only be described as a fiasco."

He questions Wrexham's figures for the number of fans attending - 2,069 - and asks why, if that figure is correct, were fans standing at the back and sitting on each others knees in the aisles when the stand seats numbered 2,230.

Mr Wynne added: "If you have any sense of fair play you should seriously think of reducing the prices the next time we play at Wrexham."

A copy of the letter has been sent to Turf Moor and to the Football Task Force, headed by David Mellor.

Another fan rang the Evening Telegraph calling for an official complaint to be made and asked: "What injuries would have been caused if 3,000 people had turned up?

"It was ridiculous. We were packed in like sardines."

Mr Rhodes said he had replied to Mr Wynne's letter and sent copies to Burnley FC, but he did not wish to make any further comment.
