FRANK Carson heads a gala concert to raise funds for the Superscan Appeal next month - and organisers are hoping for a real cracker as they aim to reach their target by Christmas. The appeal has reached the £800,000 mark and organisers now only need another £100,000 to purchase the Magnetic Resonance Imager, which will be housed in Blackburn Royal Infirmary. Terry Barber, chairman of the Blackburn fund raising committee, wants the concert to be a real celebration to all those who have worked so hard to raise the money.

He said: "We have been raising money for two years now and have nearly reached our goal.

"We want this to be a celebration and a final push for raising the money.

"This is going to be a great show for all the family and is a excellent way to celebrate reaching our target. The scanner is due to be installed at the BRI early next summer.

The concert also features Elvis Presley impersonator Steve Preston, the Darwen Youth Theatre, the Pat Eakets Dancers and Blackburn School of Dancing. Tickets are priced £10 for the balcony and £6-£8 in the stalls and are available from King George's Hall Ticket Office on 582582.
