ALMOST a year after the death of six years-old Rachael Barlow, a memorial trophy has been given in her name.

Donated by her mum and dad, Barbara and Steve, it was presented by eight years old Megan Barlow, Rachael's sister, to Ruth Willis of Lancaster Avenue, Golborne (pictured), shortly before Ruth left St Luke's Primary School to attend Lowton High School.

It was in recognition of the great progress she made in her subjects. She will keep the Rachael Barlow Memorial Trophy for the next 12 months. Rachael died of a brain tumour last year.

Ruth's proud mum Mavis, who also has four other children, said: "The entire family are very proud of Ruth for being the first person to be awarded the Rachael Barlow Memorial Trophy. We were all choked and emotional when we heard she had been chosen, for she works very hard."
