A CONVENTIONAL marriage proposal was out of the question for a Bury man who went the extra mile to prove his love.
Martin Roberts discovered that being up front about his feelings simply wasn't enough - so he sprayed a message on his garage door!
Martin (41) put the spray can into action after Shirley Ann Barnes (34) asked him to pop the question in public.
He said: "Shirley Ann was extremely shocked when she saw the message - so much so that she stopped the car in the middle of the street.
"I asked her if the message was public enough for her. The idea was unusual but I think it met the requirements!"
The couple, who have lived together in Arley Avenue for three years, will marry in Bury in January.
Martin, who had already proposed to Shirley Ann on his home computer, added: "She had already said yes but insisted that I ask her properly. She said she wanted everybody to know about it. Since the message went up people in the street have been asking me whether or not Shirley Ann has accepted.
"And there was method in my madness because the door needs replacing anyway!"
The message was the icing on the cake for the Martin and Shirley Ann, pictured outside the garage door, who both work for medical companies.a senior territory representative for a medical company,a business development manager for a medical company.
