LOCAL construction company, Allen Building Ltd is pressing on with the £2m contract to build a new college hair and beauty facility close to Leigh town centre.
The three-storey teaching and administration building will replace an existing facility which no longer meets needs. It will be open in September 1998.
The college hair and beauty facility has an excellent reputation for teaching, but it's current building is inappropriate to meet growing demands.
In contrast, the new building, designed by Mills Beaumont Leavey Channon, has been designed to make a futuristic, light, airy and timeless feel. It will be a high quality contemporary setting to house state-of-the-art facilities including a sauna, spa pool and steam room plus four hair dressing salons, three beauty salons and a theatrical make-up room.
The department head, Babara Weston, said: " Our existing building is not big enough. The new building will enable us to offer more courses at a higher level."
Stuart Bonnette, Managing Director of Allen Building Limited, said: "We are delighted to be working for our local college, and will ensure our extensive experience in the educational building field brings great benefit to staff and students."
