POLICE are hunting an arsonist who started a massive barn blaze at a farm in Newton-le-Willows.

A man was spotted setting fire to the barn at Lawson's Farm in Ashton Road at about 5.45pm on Thursday, Oct 9. It took firefighters nearly 16 hours to extinguish the flames and the barn and its contents - 120 tonnes of hay - were completely destroyed. Damage has been estimated at about £20,000.

The man was spotted by a local resident who saw him walk onto the property, approach the barn and set fire to it before running off.
