TREVOR Machel has been appointed to the Community Drugs Team based in Queen Street, Newton-le-Willows.
As family worker, Trevor will offer support and advice to relatives of drug users and will also be instrumental in encouraging the growth of a self support group in the area.
In introducing Trevor at a promotion to coincide with Boots Drug Awareness Week, St Helens North MP Dave Watts said: "It has long been recognised that the problems of drug abuse not only affect the drug abuser but causes a wave of despair and destruction among other family members. It is often difficult for a family member to approach the drugs team as drug abuse often causes shame and embarrassment and possibly strong feelings of guilt and shame. Trevor will be here to dispel fears and myths and will offer counselling and support to families as a way forward in dealing with the problem."
