A DETERMINED St Annes teenager who suffers from a life-threatening disease has been nominated for a top award by her grandmother.
Zoe Holt, 17, of Mornington Road, Lytham, suffers from cystic fibrosis, yet has passed all her nine GCSE's with flying colours despite having to go to hospital every evening to receive painful intravenous treatment. Her condition makes it difficult for her to breathe, digest food and leaves her very susceptible to infections.
As well as concentrating on her exams at the time, she looked after her mother who suffers from diabetes, arthritis and is wheelchair bound.
Her school gave her an award for outstanding achievement and she was made a senior prefect as well. Zoe's grandmother, Christine Freeman, who helps to look after her, has nominated her for the Cystic Fibrosis Achievers' Awards.
She said: "She has achieved so much despite all the odds. I am very proud of her. But she simply says that there are people in far worse situations than her.
"Apart from her academic successes, she is a lovely girl and she helps her mum out all the time. I thank God for her every day."
Now, Zoe is awaiting to see if she has been chosen for the award.
In the meantime she is working hard in the sixth form at Lytham St Annes High School studying for an HNVQ in Health and Social Care to help her in her ambition of becoming a midwife.
