SPORTS Minister Tony Banks is being asked to investigate Clarets' fans fury over ground arrangements at Wrexham.

He has been asked to intervene by Burnley MP Peter Pike, who has been approached by angry Burnley supporters.

They have told him they had to stand after paying £12 for a seat.

A Burnley supporter himself, Mr Pike was unable to attend the game but said: "I have been contacted by several people following last Saturday's match regarding problems at the Wrexham ground.

"I am raising this with the Minister, with Wrexham Football Club and with the police.

"Clearly something went wrong and that should not have been possible.

"I had in fact intended to go to Wrexham myself but my advice bureau ran over by one and a half hours which made it impossible.''

More than 2,000 Burnley supporters travelled to North Wales but many were left standing at the back and in the aisles until a terraced area known as the paddock was opened to them part-way through the match.

Clarets Independent Supporters Association chairman Dave Wynne said fans were treated badly with too many being packed into a seating area. He welcomed Mr Pike's actions.

Wrexham managing director and secretary David Rhodes said there were 2,230 seats available for 2,069 Burnley fans.

The problem, he said, was caused by travelling supporters not taking up the seats available.

The paddock area, which had been closed because of damage to a ladies' toilet, was opened during the first half to let in Burnley latecomers.
