Farnborough 0 Morecambe 2

MORECAMBE kick off their FA Cup campaign against Altrincham next week but after Saturday's victory they will be relishing the prospect. The Shrimps have a 100 per cent away record and the trip to South Manchester to take on the once mighty Robins should see them progress to the next round. The odds on Morecambe winning the Conference have been slashed by the bookies from 20-1 to 5-2 second favourites and on current form they could well be this season's FA cup giant killers.

Against Farnborough, Morecambe showed that they can carve out a win despite being forced on the defensive.

After last week's defending disaster against Dover, manager Jim Harvey was looking for a steadier performance form his back four and he was not disappointed.

Morecambe could not have hoped for a better start with a John Norman goal almost straight from the kick off.

Farnborough defender Wayne Stemp slipped on the wet grass as he attempted to clear a telling through ball and it fell nicely for Norman whose shot was deadly accurate.

Morecambe were fired up and Grimshaw came close twice before Farnborough caught their breath and managed to launch an attack of their own.

With their top scorer Chris Boothe out of the side their forward play rarely threatened, coming to nothing in the final ball.

But credit has to go to Morecambe's defenders, especially Dave Miller, who soaked up the Farnborough pressure. Ceraolo should have killed off the game in the 71st minute when he was gifted a great shot at goal.

But in the 85th minute Norman finished off the home side who were caught on the break and could only watch as the Shrimp sharp shooter lobbed the advancing keeper.
