THERE'S light at the end of the tunnel for Chris Waddle's Burnley.

The season's first win has been followed by good news on the injuries front.

Classy defender Steve Blatherwick is almost back to full fitness after having surgery on his knee and it's a similar story with winger Paul Smith's broken ankle.

Blatherwick could feature in Burnley's game at Brian Flynn's Wrexham on Saturday (October 18), although Smith's return is a little further away as he is not quite match fit.

Waddle says he may be able to persuade Gerry Creaney to make a permanent move from Manchester City, where the striker is no longer wanted.

The stumbling block is wages - Burnley, of course, can't compete with what City were paying Creaney, but Waddle can offer him a regular first-team place.

Scottish newspapers have linked Burnley with Dundee United midfielder Grant Johnson - although neither club has commented on the speculation.

Midfielder Mark Ford is Burnley's first victim of the new yellow-card totting up procedure - he faces a five-match ban for picking up five bookings.

ZThe match at Kevin Keegan's Fulham has moved forward a day to Friday December 19 so that Sky can show the game live.
