PRESTON'S Trades Council will meet to discuss the findings of a tribunal which found four Preston College lecturers had been unfairly sacked.
The findings, which the Citizen exclusively revealed last week, have been circulated to members of the executive committee who will meet in a month to decide what action to take.
The tribunal panel found serious flaws when the college made redundancies in December 1995. Four lecturers put up thousands of pounds of their own money to fight their case when their union NATFHE refused to back them.
Terry King, secretary of the Trades Council, said: "Lots of questions need to be asked so this doesn't happen again. A lot of public money is at stake.
"Let's hope this encourages unions to back their members more. Even though tribunals are becoming more formal and costly nowadays, maybe it's time for unions to start taking more risks."
