SCOTTISH Premier League giants Glasgow Celtic have checked out Burnley's number one goalkeeper Marlon Beresford.
The Lancashire Evening Telegraph can exclusively reveal tonight that Celtic have watched Beresford in action three times this season - including the 3-1 win over Carlisle United at Turf Moor on October 11.
It is well known north of the border that Parkhead coach Wim Jansen is searching for fresh goalkeeping talent - and Beresford is on that transfer hit list.
Burnley have not received a bid from Celtic but the Clarets would not listen to offers under £1 million if Celtic decide to pursue their growing interest. Player-manager Chris Waddle confirmed: "I've not heard anything from Celtic.
"Jonathan Gould (current first choice) has done well at Celtic but I know they are short of goalkeepers.
"But I can honestly say that they've not spoken to me. That could change in the next few days, I just don't know."
Beresford's form this season has already attracted interest from at least two Nationwide First Division clubs, while Premiership Leicester City made an enquiry earlier this season. "It doesn't surprise me that clubs are looking at Marlon because he has had a super start to the season," added Waddle.
"He is under pressure for his place from Chris Woods and Tony Parks and I think that has given an extra edge to Marlon's game."
Meanwhile, Beresford will line up for Burnley tomorrow as the Clarets attempt to extend their unbeaten Division Two run to five games against Bournemouth at Turf Moor. Waddle added: "If we play like we have been doing in the past three or four games, I am sure we can get the right result against Bournemouth.
"Mel Machin always has his side well organised and they've surprised a few people this season with their results.
"Drawing our last two games has stopped the rot away from home.
"Now we must try build on that improvement with two home games against Bournemouth and Walsall in quick succession.
"Our priority is to beat Bournemouth, our second is to get out of the bottom four and our third is to climb up to the top half of the table.
"I know that the players here can do that and I'm still quietly confident that we can at least make a charge towards the play-offs."
Burnley's trip to Luton on Tuesday, November 4 is all-ticket. Tickets are on general sale priced at £13 (6.50 concessions).
Fulham have smashed their transfer record after paying West Brom £1.1 million for Canadian striker Paul Peschisolido.
Burnley's B team take on Liverpool B at Gawthorpe tomorrow (11.00 am). The A team travel to meet Everton A.
