We should not be surprised that people were prepared to risk hypothermia to buy models of characters which gurgle toddler language out of the box.
Cabbage Patch Dolls, Transformers and even Bill and Ben the Flower Pot Men all had similar barmy followings.
What staggers us is the amount of money people are prepared to splash out on these characters.
Shares may wobble and topple on the Stock Exchange, but if you can forecast the next daft fad, you will have no more financial worries.
